Working as part of a joint Activus/client team, this client facing role involves a mixture of working on client sites, working from home, and at our central Bristol office. The main responsibilities are:

  • Provide technical consultancy to clients and inside the organisation in the deployment and usage of our software
  • Provide technical expertise in pre-sales activities, for example producing high-level solution definitions
  • Participate in implementation projects, owning technical workstreams. Liaising with external clients and their developers and infrastructure staff
  • Define solution architecture for implementations including system designs, software selection, interface design and gap analysis. Liaise with Activus Development team.
  • Define infrastructure architecture for implementations including software, hardware and network requirements
  • Helping smooth release delivery and installations for clients
  • Preparing documentation and presenting solutions to clients
  • Gather and document requirements for system enhancements
  • Develop and maintain technical information
  • Travel to client sites, potentially overseas

Qualifications:

  • The candidate will likely hold a relevant degree in either software/computer science or a numeric subject. Relevant industry qualifications, such as Microsoft Certified Professional and PRINCE 2, would be desirable.

Key Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Preferred candidates will have a software development or a deployment background principally in Microsoft technologies and be experienced in the full software development lifecycle. Ideally you will be able to demonstrate practical experience of a number of the following skills and tools, preferably in the financial services or insurance industry.

Essential:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience of requirements definition process including business analysis and documentation of requirements solution and infrastructure architecture design
  • Good problem solving skills including
  • Experience in performance troubleshooting (preferably in a complex SOA scenario)
  • Investigating and diagnosing deployment issues (preferably in Citrix or RDS)
  • Implementing web services to provide a service oriented architecture
  • Installing and configuring services and applications on Microsoft server/network/platforms
  • SQL Server including T-SQL or Oracle including PL-SQL

The successful candidate is also likely to possess experience in a number of the skills/tools below:

  • Microsoft Office including MS Project and MS Visio
  • Development experience in Microsoft or other technologies
  • Microsoft Visual Studio
  • C# or VB.NET
  • SQL Server Reporting Services
  • XML and XSD schema design
  • J2EE
  • NServiceBus
  • WCF
  • Ajax, Javascript, JQuery, CSS
  • Subversion
  • Virtualisation
  • Experience in producing Wire Frames for Portal development
  • Experience of running client workshops – presentation skills
  • Working with PowerShell

Desirable:

  • Business level proficiency of Mandarin/French or any other European language
